Smooth mellow soul from one of the great under-discovered talents of the 70s! David Oliver has a sweet voice that's kind of inspired by Marvin Gaye's more sexy work for Motown – but which is also produced here by Wayne Henderson with a slightly jazzy tip, and some spacey arrangements that really bring out a sensual quality that makes the tracks sparkle! There's some great mellow groovers and gentle steppers on the album – and tracks include "Summer Love", "I Keep Looking For A Better Way", "Never Seen A Girl Like You", "Puppets On A String", "Private Tonight", "I Remember You When", and "Could It Be Love". (Cover has a cutout hole.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Con Funk Shun
Mercury, 1976. Very Good+
Early work from Con Funk Shun – different than their later, better known hits! The group sure knew how to slap that bass, even back on this first album for Mercury – but then again, they – along with other big Mercury groups like The Ohio Players – were pioneering the bass-h ... Honey
Mercury, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
One of the best albums the Ohio Players cut during the years at Mercury! Most folks go for their big hit "Love Rollercoaster", but we've always been partial to the smooth, mellow funky track "Sweet Sticky Thing", served up here in the cool long version, which has a groove that ... Angel
Mercury, 1977. Very Good Gatefold
By this point the Players had moved into a smooth, polished territory that never betrayed their roots in a funkier sound, yet hitting a more gliding groove overall. Includes "Angel", "Merry-Go-Round", "Don't Fight My Love", "Body Vibes" and "O-H-I-O&quo ... LP, Vinyl record album

It's Better To Travel
Mercury, 1987. Near Mint-
A surprisingly great guilty pleasure from the 80s – the first album from Swing Out Sister, recorded when all the excitement of the UK post punk scene had just about faded, and most of the groups had left their exciting early roots behind. Enter these guys, picking up the last shreds of jazzy ... LP, Vinyl record album

What It Is
Polydor, 1972. Very Good-
Wild weird stuff from Edwin Birdsong – an artist who's best known for his work with Roy Ayers during the 70s. This effort's got a very similar righteous soul sound to some of Roy's early work for Polygram – with a mix of jazz, soul, funk, and lots of cosmic wisdom – although ... LP, Vinyl record album

Night Grooves
Fantasy, 1978. Very Good+
A great album of funky dancefloor tunes! Originally issued in 1978, and clearly for the New York dancefloor crowd – the record takes the earlier work of funk group The Blackbyrds, and remixes the tracks slightly to pump up the groove a bit for the dancers. While the approach might not sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chytowns, Early 70s. Very Good+
Totally great bit of funky soul and blues from Chicago, released on the obscure Chytowns label, and played by Ulysses Samuel Warren and band. Some nice instrumentals with very messed up guitar, and other bluesy cuts that have US singing with the group. Track sinclude "Fried Chitterlins" ... LP, Vinyl record album
