It's Time
CD (Item 554463) Katalyst, 2011 — Condition: New Copy
One of the most soulful sessions we've ever heard from the legendary Kahil El'Zabar – and that's saying a lot, given all of his experiments to mix jazz and club music over the years! This set's his first outing with his Ethnics group – a wonderful combo that's a lot more jazz-based than some of Kahil's other crossover projects – and one that features some especially great vocals from Nona Hendryx, sounding better here than we've heard in years! Kahil's percussion leads the grooves on most tracks, but there's also some rhythm patterns too, and keyboards from Shannon Harris, of Urbancity fame – as well as additional keyboards from Robert Irving III, trumpet from Corey Wilkes, and tenor from Kevin Nabors. Somehow, though, there's still a core acoustic vibe that really holds strong, and keeps the perfect backdrop for Nona's bold vocals – on titles that include "Giant Steps", "Paradise", "I Follow The Sun", "Love Is A Flame", "It's Time", and "Dance In The Spirit". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
