LP (Item 15447) Argo, 1962 — Condition: Used

One of the three hard to get Argo sides from St Louis organist Sam Lazar, somewhat of an obscure player best known for giving Grant Green one of his first jobs, though Green's not featured here. He's recorded here with a tight little combo running down a good set of mostly originals with a sound that veers as much towards raw instrumental R&B as slick 60s club jazz. Midwestern locals on the set include Miller Brisker on tenor, George Eskridge on guitar and Phil Thomas on drums. Titles include "Sam's Jams", "Happy Bossa Nova", "Soul Merchant", and "Smooth Coasting". (Blue label Argo pressing with deep groove. Cover has some wear.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
