Paradise Island/Bird Of Paradise

CD (Item 611656) Vocalion (UK), 1966/1969 — Condition: New Copy

Island sounds, courtesy of Wout Steenhuis & The Kontikis – a European combo, but one who really get the right sound for a record like this! The music's a bit late in the exotica mode, but that's possibly what makes it so nice – in that there's kind of a revisionist look at the style, particularly the Hawaiian variant – maybe not as staid here now that the state found its place with 48 on the mainland – which leaves Wout free to bring in lots of nice 60s groovy touches! The set features two full albums from the late 60s – and titles include "On A Little Bamboo Bridge", "Paradise Island", "Malihini March", "Tiger Shark", "Flamingo", "My Little Hula Girl", "Here Is Happiness", and "Into The Blue".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
