A beautiful collection of work from the legendary Moondog -- most of which has never been issued here in the US! The 2CD set features one disc of material from Moondog's German albums over a 20 year span -- plus an additional disc that presents his final concert, presented here for the first time ever! Moondog left the US for Germany after his two famous albums on Columbia Records at the start of the 70s -- and his stay in that country saw him further refining his initial styles, adapting them more for ensembles of other players, and receiving some of the respect that he never got back in the US. The tracks here are often quite different, but all pretty great -- and as the set goes on, they increasingly show Moondog's musical ideas reworked for a more serious performance mode on piano, pipe organ, woodwinds, and voice. But although the recordings are a bit more professional, there's still plenty of the whimsy and earthier moments we love in his earlier American records!
