CD (Item 498221) Syllart (France), 1980s/1990s -- Condition: New Copy

A great set that goes a long way towards filling in the gaps in the under-recorded earlier years of Malian singer Kandia Kouyate! The package brings together a core five numbers from a 1999 session in Paris, done with excellent accompaniment on kora from Ballake Sissoko -- then adds in a rare recording from 1984, and one more from 1981! Kouyate's vocals on the set are amazing -- filled with soul that goes way beyond language -- and the Parisian recordings are especially great, as the spare kora backing makes for some really hypnotic sounds. Titles include "Sarama", "Yo Lele", "Sora", "Bouka", "Kandia Djeli Nana", and "Doninke".  © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
