Red Eyes
CD (Item 607821) Naive (France), 2012 — Condition: New Copy
A beautifully offbeat record from singer Mina Agossi – straight one minute, soulful the next, and with some great inflections that almost take us back to the more creative vocal sides of the 70s French scene – such as work by Abbey Lincoln or Joe Lee Wilson! Agossi's a jazz singer at heart, but definitely has room for lots of other influences in her sound – and inflects her core, slightly-raspy vocals with an easygoing energy that works especially well on her own compositions, and helps create new sounds on the album's few familiar numbers. Archie Shepp guests on two tracks – "The Stars Are In Your Eyes" and "Red House" – and titles include "The Crying Girl", "Oh You", "Red Eyes", "As If", "Let It Rain", and a surprisingly nice jazz version of "Eyes Without A Face". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
