Brass & The Blues/Can't Get No Grindin
CD (Item 570101) Chess/BGO (UK), 1966/1973 — Condition: New Copy
A pair of Muddy Waters efforts from nearly a decade apart – good stuff paired up on a single CD! Muddy, Brass And The Blues is unique mid 60s Chess session – one with a very different feel than usual, and a good dose of soul too! As you might guess from the title, Muddy gets some full backings on this set – not exactly a large brass section, but a set of Chicago soul-styled backings handled by Gene Barge and Charles Stepney – grooves which, when mixed with his own bluesy guitar and vocals, creates a feel that's a bit like some of the Little Milton Chess work from the same time. Titles include "Hard Loser", "Going Back To Memphis", "Trouble In Mind", "Sweet Little Angel", and "Take My Advice". 1973's Can't Get No Grindin' is more of a back-to-basics return to electric blues for Muddy – after a few funkier albums for Chess. The style isn't bad, and shows that Muddy had enough growing power at the time that he could get Chess to let him return to a purer Chicago electric blues style. Titles include "Funky Butt", "After Hours", "Garbage Man", "Love Weapon", "Muddy Waters' Shuffle", and "Mother's Bad Luck Child". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
