Weekend In Paris
CD (Item 541768) United Artists/EMI (Japan), 1963 — Condition: New Copy
An overlooked gem from Chris Connor – a French session cut with arranger Michel Colombier, and a real standout from the rest of her recordings! There's a maturity here that's really great – a sound that's every bit as sad and sexy as Connor's work for Atlantic Records, but more sophisticated too – nicely measured in emotion, with maybe a Julie London touch at times, especially in the way the recording style brings out a bit of breathiness in Chris' vocals. Backings have a nice mix of guitar and strings, which creates a different feel than some of Connor's more jazz-based records – gentle and sexy, but never sleepy. Titles include "Meantime", "Johnny", "Chances Are", "I Love My Man", "Hum Drum Blues", and "I Could Go On Singing". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
