A fantastic record that's truly one of Tito Rodriguez's best from the 60s – a very jazzy affair, and one that breaks the pattern of most of his other albums of the time! As the title implies, Tito's working here live at Birdland nightclub – with a jazz-based lineup to match the setting, one that includes great guest work from Zoot Sims, Clark Terry, Al Cohn, and Bob Brookmeyer – all of whom really expand Tito's sound with some wonderful solo work! The tracks here are all longer than usual for Tito, and all much more Latin jazz too – and titles include "Summertime", "Mack The Knife", "Perdido", and "How High The Moon". (Heavy original pressing. Vinyl is nice and clean, and cover is nice.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Oh Girl
Atlantic, 1972. Near Mint-
Wicked electric funk from Young Holt Unlimited – and a real departure from the sound of their 60s albums, and a step into a groove that's very 70s-styled overall! The album's heavy on Fender Rhodes – played not just by group member Ken Chaney, but also by a young Bobby Lyle – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Breeding Of Mind
Groove Merchant, 1974. Near Mint-
Wonderfully baroque funk from the great O'Donel Levy! The album's got some very cool arrangements by Manny Albam that mix together strings and funk – in a super-dope way that sounds a lot like the work coming out of Cadet during the late 60s – and the rest of the set features Levy ...
