One that we heard way too much when it was out, but which we kind of love now! The album's part of H&O's great comeback years in the early 80s – a time when they were mixing their white boy soul with some nice 80s groove and electro touches, often going for a spare mix of groove and vocals that's really compelling. Includes the sublime "Maneater", everything that was right with pop in the 80s – plus "One On One", "Open All Night", "Crime Pays", "Go Solo", "Delayed Reaction", "At Tension", and "Italian Girls". (Includes the lyric sleeve.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

LTD
RCA, 1970. Very Good+
A great early album by Main Ingredient – with the roots of their classic 70s harmony sound, and some excellent arrangements by Bert De Coteaux that give the band a nice tight sound. The album's a great illustration of the sort of pop soul sound the band was perfecting – a style that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smooth Talk
RCA, 1977. Very Good+
Wonderfully smooth soul from Evelyn Champagne King – one of her real standouts from the early days, and a tremendous collaboration with producer/arranger T Life! The sound here is upbeat and catchy, but never too poppy – done with a slight hint of that groove that King would hit more ... LP, Vinyl record album

Perfect Angel
Epic, 1974. Very Good+
Minnie Riperton's first album for Epic – and the record that broke her from a hip Chicago underground artist into one of the seventies' biggest soul divas! The record moves past the baroque soul of Minnie's early years with Rotary Connection and Charles Stepney – and hits a mix of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Flying Start
Fantasy, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Not the band's first album – as you might think from the "start" in the title – but a classic batch of jazzy, funky, and soulful grooves from The Blackbyrds – one of those combos that few groups could match back in the 70s! The set's got a beautifully put-together feel ... LP, Vinyl record album
