LP (Item 602730) Andrew's Music, 1975 — Condition: New Copy
A great title for this gem of a record – a mid 70s set that shows off Andrew White's wide range of saxophone talents – a Roland Kirk-like array that runs from soulful to swinging to spiritual! The tracks are a bit shorter than some of White's live albums, which gives him lots of room to shift mood and bring in fresh ideas – swinging straight some times, stretching out in more freely expressive solos at others – all grounded by work from the young Kevin Toney on acoustic piano, Steve Novosel on bass, and Keith Killgo on drums. Titles include a version of Les Baxter's "Dock At Papaeta", a take on "Ma Cherie Amour", a very free run with Miles Davis' "Four", the original "Ball & Jackie Jackie", Coltrane's "Crescent", and Wayne Shorter's "Contemplation".
