Tubby's New Groove
CD (Item 560710) Candid (UK), 1959 — Condition: New Copy
Not a new groove, but a great one – the sound of Tubby Hayes in the late 50s – a time when his tenor skills were easily at the top of the UK scene – if not the entire global jazz scene as well! The album's a quartet date that really lets Tubby open up – recorded in the same manner of some of his best records for the Tempo label – with a laidback studio feel that offers a perfect demonstration of his improvisational skills on the tenor – blown deeply, soulfully, and with a quality that's really outta sight! The rhythm section is rock-solid – with the mighty Phil Seamen on drums, plus Terry Shannon on piano and Jeff Clyne on bass. Titles include "Supper At Phil's", "Visa", "Hook's Way", "The Trolley Song", "Symphony", and an alternate take of "Tin Tin Deo". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
