LP (Item 4158) Curtom/RSO, 1979 — Condition: Used

LP, Vinyl record album

4.50 11

Very obscure bit of late Curtom funk, recorded during the time the label was briefly allied with RSO, and when Fred Wesley was doing a bit of work for them. Wesley did a lot of the arrangements on the album, and got an uptempo groove that ranges from Horny Horns-type material to electro 80s grooves. There's a definite P-Funk feel here – as you'll catch on the tracks "Blipped (All Over Myself)", "Mad House", "Astro Boogie", and "Get On Down". (White label promo. Cover has a gold promo stamp on the back, light wear, and a lightly stained corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Hutson
Curtom, 1975. Very Good
An amazing record – quite possibly the best ever by Chicago soul legend Leroy Hutson! The whole thing's a smooth soul masterpiece beyond compare – a stunning blend of great songwriting, sexy vocals, and buttery production that rank it up there with the best work of 70s giants like ... Man!
Curtom, 1974. Very Good
A killer early album by the great Leroy Hutson! Hutson had originally been a later member of The Impressions – replacing Curtis Mayfield briefly after he'd gone solo – but he also had spent a fair bit of time noodling around the Chicago soul studio scene of the late 60s and early 70s. ... Do It All Night
Curtom, 1978. Sealed
A clubbier album than usual from Curtis Mayfield – a mid 70s attempt to move onto the dancefloor, but a set that's still got the undeniable Mayfield charm! Half the tracks here were done in collaboration with disco maestro Gil Askey – and these numbers are longer tracks that soar and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Volt, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
Fantastic early work from The Dramatics – an amazing blend of sweet soul harmony vocals, Memphis soul production, and some other-worldly songwriting that far surpasses later work of the group. Souled
RCA, 1969. Sealed
One of Jose's classic early RCA sides, with a good Chicano soul groove and some nice LA backing by a small group that includes Ray Brown, Milt Holland, and Mike Melvoin. Tracks include "Younger Generation", "Sad Gypsy", "Hi Heel Sneakers", "She's Too Good To ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ...
