A fantastic album of funky soul – and Shorty's greatest album! Well, it's actually only one of two albums he cut – and the only one that was issued before his untimely early death – but it's a killer batch of tracks that mix together funk, Detroit soul, and a great sense of humor! The album kicks off with Shorty's hit single "Here Comes The Judge", a funky musical version of the "judge" routine that had been knocking around the Chittlin Circuit comedy scene for years, particularly in the work of Pigmeat Markham. The album also features Shorty's legendary "soul party" cut, "Function At The Junction", plus lots of other tasty numbers like "Night Fo Last" (done in vocal and instrumental versions)", "Here Comes Fat Albert", "Stranded In the Jungle", "Don't Mess With My Weekend", "Ain't No Justice", and "Sing What You Wanna". Great stuff – and a pretty tough album to find!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

ARC, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A very hip tribute to Otis Redding – one that has The Majestics hitting hard in an instrumental mode that's almost like some of the Mar-Keys or Bar-Kays work on Stax from the mid 60s – tight drums on the bottom, Hammond and guitar grooving in the middle, and some occasional horns ... Polydor, 1976. New Copy (reissue)
One of Roy Ayers' biggest albums ever! The whole thing's an incredible album of mellow jazzy soul – and it shows Roy at the crossroads, perfecting his earlier funk style with a sweet mellow R&B edge, getting a bit slicker, but still staying on the righteous path, and opening up a whole ... One of the best early soul albums by Roy Ayers! This is perhaps the first record to really have Roy stretching out ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1975. New Copy (reissue)
An archetypal album by Roy – and one that really shows him at the turning point! Gone are the trippier jazz funk moments of earlier albums – and in their place are some tight grooves and wonderfully spacey soul. Roy hits the dancefloor with one of his first uptempo funk numbers "B ... LP, Vinyl record album
Norton, Late 50s/1960s. New Copy
Norton Records takes over the excellent Golden Groups series – using the format as a great way to present their vocal soul treasures! Dresses Too Short
Twinight/Numero, 1969. New Copy (reissue)
The funkiest album that Syl Johnson ever recorded – filled with short, tight cuts that play more like a stack of funky 45s than the standard soul album of the time! The record draws from the great run of singles that Syl cut for Twinight Records at the end of the 60s – some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Funk Inc
Fantasy/BGP (UK), 1971. New Copy (reissue)
A killer instrumental album of hard organ grooves and funky basslines! One of a handful of enigmatic albums cut in the early 70s by Sixto Rodriguez – a Latin-tinged singer with a style that's a bit like that of Jose Feliciano, but trippier, and with more rock and folk touches! This set's probably his best one – thanks to arrangements and production by ... LP, Vinyl record album
