A strange and wonderful session from the Jones/Lewis big band – one of their hippest of the 70s, recorded in Finland with a host of very cool players! UMO is the Finnish New Music Orchestra – a group featuring players that include Pekka Sarmanto on bass, Eero Koivistoinen on tenor and soprano sax, Otto Berger on electric guitar, and Esko Linnavalli on electric piano – plus a host of other great talents that we'd never heard before. The style is a nice mix of acoustic and electric big band grooving – with some nicely dancing numbers that have a bit of a choppy reed touch, some of the MPS big band groove, but still retain that Jones/Lewis American swing.
