Surprisingly nice work from Peter Brown – a groover who still managed to hit on all burners after his early years at TK Records! Brown's definitely got a crossover feel here – clubby rhythms, but topped with vocals that belie his look on the front – and which, along with the catchy grooves, should have done more than enough to get Peter some wider play with early 80s audiences. Yet there's also some key dancefloor craft here – no-nonsense approach to the bottom of the tunes, and never too much cloying production up top – which serves to keep things nice and lean, and plenty clean too. Titles include "Give Me Up", "Heaven In Your Eyes", "Shall We Dance", "Danger", "The Love Game", "Satisfaction Guaranteed", and "Baby Gets High".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Drive, 1977. Very Good Gatefold
A super-huge moment for Miami funk guru Peter Brown – a record instantly recognized by the silhouetted cover image of a perky nude in a window on the front, and for the very famous title hit, "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" Despite its hit status, the record's actually a pretty ... LP, Vinyl record album

Feliciano!
RCA, Late 60s. Very Good+
An amazing record! By all rights, this shouldn't be so good – but it's an incredible album of haunting tracks that really has us coming back again and again over the years. The formula is simple: Jose plays late 60s pop tunes on acoustic guitar, and sings them in his spacey soulful voice. ... LP, Vinyl record album

You Fooled Me
RCA, 1978. Very Good
A great little debut album from the team of Len Ron Hanks and Zane Grey – songwriters who'd scored earlier in the 70s with tracks for Jerry Butler and LTD, but who also strike up a pretty strong groove on their own! The pair are from Chicago, but are recording in LA – and their sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

On Top Of Clear
RCA, 1976. Very Good+
One of their nice albums for RCA, with a sound that's a mix of ballads and up-tempo cuts, in the same style as a lot of other East Coast groups from the time. Van McCoy arranged and produced, and the LP includes their single "Hey, What's That Dance You're Doing", plus "Two Different ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carol Townes & Fifth Avenue
RCA/Sixth Avenue, 1976. Very Good+
A really wonderful bit of group soul from the 70s – the debut effort from a quintet who'd worked hawking goods on TV at the time, but who are getting some tight production here from Lou Courtney – who pushes the album into much hipper territory than you might expect. Carol's in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rolling Down A Mountainside
RCA, 1975. Very Good+
Mid 70s magic from The Main Ingredient – a set that has the trio working with even more sophistication than on previous records, yet still holding onto all the harmonies that always made them great! Reflections
Arista, 1981. Very Good
A great little album that's often overshadowed by its hit – the 15 minute "B-Movie", which was sort of an overly-wrought protest piece about how the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 was going to turn America into a bad b-movie. Not that that track's bad – although its ... LP, Vinyl record album

People Get Ready
ABC, 1965. Good+
One of the greatest albums ever from The Impressions – and a set that takes their work to a whole new level, by bringing in an even more righteous sound!
