If This Isn't Love – Live In Amsterdam 1958

CD (Item 593312) MCN (Netherlands), 1958 — Condition: New Copy

Sarah Vaughan swings in Amsterdam – really cooking things up in this rare late 50s recording, which comes across with an even more mature sound than some of her studio albums of the time! Vaughan's live dates for Mercury/Emarcy are among some of our favorite sides ever by the legendary singer – and this concert performance really lives up to the depth of those records, too – showing the way that Sarah can really open up and inflect her vocals when performing live, bringing in a more improvised, spontaneous quality than you'd ever catch in the studio! The backing is by a trio with Ronnell Bright on piano and Richard Davis on bass – but Sarah's vocals dominate the proceedings strongly – stretching out beautifully, and wowing us all over again – in ways that make the record well worth seeking out as a document of her rich powers in the 50s. Titles include "Mean To Me", "Lover Man", "Cherokee", "If This Isn't Love", "Passing Strangers", "Autumn In New York", "Tenderly", and "How High The Moon" – the last of which is a jam session number with guest tenor from Don Byas!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
