Asi Empezo La Cosa
CD (Item 605057) Montuno, 1978 — Condition: New Copy
70s grooves from the New York scene – but played by a group with a strong ear for Cuban roots! Armando Sanchez's combo here really focuses on older Cuban tipico sounds – using instrumentation that's heavy on percussion, guitar, tres, and trumpet – often woven together in ways that are a lot more spare than other New York work of the time. Rhythms are right out front in the mix, blending beautifully with the vocals – and even the mellower tunes have the kind of punch you'd expect to hear on a classic Latin date from Havana. Titles include "Guajira En Nueva York", "Manene", "Negro Mambi", "Y Yo Ganga", "Monte Tiene Garabato", "Yo Vengo De Oriente", and "Songo Y Guantanamo". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | ||||||
