Early stuff by Sly – and pretty nice! The mix of styles is mostly hard soul, a bit jazz, and tiny roots of Sly's later funky style – and the record has a lot of cuts that may not be as great as Sly's Epic recordings, but which would sound pretty darn nice if they were on an obscure 45! Includes the heavy organ number "Rock Dirge", plus "Deck Of Cards", "If You Were Blue", "Life Of Fortune & Fame", "Hi Love", "Watermelon Man", and "Take My Advice".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album

Oh Girl
Atlantic, 1972. Near Mint-
Wicked electric funk from Young Holt Unlimited – and a real departure from the sound of their 60s albums, and a step into a groove that's very 70s-styled overall! The album's heavy on Fender Rhodes – played not just by group member Ken Chaney, but also by a young Bobby Lyle – ... LP, Vinyl record album
