Lars Gullin Vol 5 – First Walk 1951/1952
CD (Item 375267) Dragon (Sweden), 1951/1952 — Condition: New Copy
Seminal early recordings from baritone saxophonist Lars Gullin – one of the greatest European players of the 50s, and an artist who made a big impact over on this side of the Atlantic as well! The set brings together 26 tracks from sessions recorded for the Metronome, Gazell, and Polydor labels – some of which were issued over here on 10" LPs by Prestige – but a good portion of which remain as Swedish-only recordings. The sides are some of Gullin's first as a leader, and his work on the instrument is strong enough to rival that of American baritonists like Gerry Mulligan or Serge Chaloff. Most recordings are in a small group mode – and other players include Rolf Ericson, Ake Persson, and Gunnar Svensson – on tracks that include "That's It", "Gull In A Gulch", "Mean To Me", "Dorica", "Who Sleeps", "First Walk", "Toll Bridge", "Smart Alec", and "Dancing In The Dark". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
