Portrait Of A Prodigy – His Early Years 1940s to 1950s

CD (Item 608917) EM (Japan), 1940s/1950s — Condition: New Copy

Bamboo flute and percussion – served up here in a host of rare 78 rpm recordings that seem to make the music sound even fresher than usual! There's a spare, stark quality to the songs that really stands out – a perfect showcase for TR Mahalingam's deft Carnatic flute lines – dipping, turning, and climbing with effortless ease – as they're spurred on by some really compelling hand percussion as well! The music is light and lyrical, but has a great undercurrent of darkness too – the same sort of moody, eerie feel that we remember from the Master Musicians of Joujouka. Titles include "Suki Evaro (parts 1 & 2)", "Mahudi", "Ninuvina (parts 1 & 2)", "Evarani", "Paramaathmudu (parts 1 & 2)", and "Sarasija Nabha".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
