Budos Band — Budos Band III ... CD 13.99

A great third album from Staten Island instrumental funk titans The Budos Band – who've brought eclectic inspiration all along and have always colored from a much broader palette of styles than most of their peers – going even further this time out and delivering their best yet! The Daptone House Of Soul blueprint is a big part of the recipe, as it should be. Classic funky soul grit holds it all together and each cut has an unshakable groove, but with that in full effect, the group is free to explore. The Budos horns are as impeccable and communicative as ever, with brass that ranges from classic stateside funk and Afro influences. The percussion (bongos, clave, cowbell and more) is just as broadly thought out and tightly delivered, snakey bass lines, flute and the sometimes secret weapon on Budos Band III, the electric organ – which brings a bit of a garage psych/funk rock vibe. Truly exceptional work from the one of the best bands of their generation! Includes "Rite Of The Ancients", "Black Venom", "River Serpentine", "Unbroken, Unshaven", "Nature's Wrath", "Golden Dune's", "Budo's Dirge", "Raja Haje", "Crimson Skies", "Mark Of The Unnamed" and "Reppirt Yad" (a funked up Lennon/McCartney cover...read it backwards, kids). (Includes a coupon for digital download.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Daptone, 2014. New Copy
Tremendous work from Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – a set that took a bit longer to hit the racks than expected, but which really shows a richness that more than makes up for the delay! Daptone, 2012. New Copy 2LP
Sublime work from one of the coolest funky combos around – a group who aren't content to just hit the same funky styles as other outfits – and one who really stretch strongly in their pursuit of new sounds! The set's definitely funky – especially on the drums – but there's ... LP, Vinyl record album

A warm batch of instrumental beats and atmospherics from Express Rising – and a much-anticipated second project from funk archivist Dante Carfagna! Truth & Soul, 2005. New Copy (reissue)
Easily one of the greatest new funk records of the 21st Century – and a set that goes way beyond some of the cliches that are currently gripping others in the deep funk underground! El Michels Affair have a cool, easygoing style to their music – one that's as much 70s jazz as it is 60s ... LP, Vinyl record album

My World – Instrumentals
Truth & Soul, 2009. New Copy
Killer instrumentals from the My World album by Lee Fields – a set that features none of Lee's vocals at all – just some great slow funk grooves by The Expressions! The vibe here is wonderful – even without Fields on deck – and in a way, leaving the vocals off unlocks a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Now Again, 2013. New Copy
Some of the most enigmatic work we've ever heard from Karl Hector & The Malcouns – still every bit as funky as before, but with a deeper, more organic approach overall – one that includes loads of sweet acoustic instrumentation and mighty nice percussion! There's a very vintage ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic/Music On Vinyl (UK), 1968. New Copy (reissue)
One of our favorite Atlantic albums by the great Yusef Lateef – an incredible session that has him dipping back into his earlier exotic roots with those great reed styles of the early 60s – yet also hitting a mix of soul and funk like some of his other albums from the time! The sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
