CD (Item 489675) Baystate/Billy Harper Fan Club, 1980 — Condition: New Copy
Really righteous work from tenorist Billy Harper – exactly the kind of record that's always had us ranking him right up there with John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders! The set is one of Billy's rare Japanese-only releases – all records that go even farther than his American and European dates of the 70s – and Harper's in tremendous form throughout, working through complicated ideas on his tenor sax – stretching himself to his fullest on the album's extended cuts! Other players are very well matched – and include the mighty Everett Hollins on trumpet, Armen Donelian on piano, Gregg Maker on bass, and Malcolm Pinson on drums – the last three of whom keep up some bold modal rhythms to really keep spirits high throughout the set. Titles work together like a mini-suite of themes – with tunes that include "Is It Not True Simply Because You Cannot Believe It", "I Do Believe", and "Believe For It Is True". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
