Les Voix D'Itxassou
CD (Item 595944) Nato (France), 1989 — Condition: New Copy
A richly complicated piece of work from Tony Coe – a set done at the start of a period that was both creatively compositional, and highly political as well! The project is dedicated to the Basque area of Itxassou – but features songs with themes of liberty and freedom from around the world – performed by a larger group headed up by Coe on a range of different saxes – and featuring vocal contributions from Maggie Bell, Ali Farka Toure, Jose Menese, Violeta Ferrer, Abed Azrie, and others. The style is more world than jazz, but there's definitely equal elements of both – and like many of Coe's projects for Nato Records, this one's almost a genre unto itself! Titles include "Jazz De Pekin", "Bella Ciao", "Hasta Siempre", "Ana Sefalelku", "The Patriot Game", and "La Legende De L'Oiseau". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
