Wicked work from Dexter Wansel – a funky classic for Philly International, put together with just the sort of care he brought to his albums for other artists! The album's a bit more straight Philly than some of Dexter's earlier records – a bit less of the cosmic funk from before, but in its place are some amazing jazzy backings – modern soul galore, with key adult touches – completely sublime throughout, and wrapped up with more great keyboards than you're likely to find on other Philly albums! The album features a killer cut – "The Sweetest Pain", a smooth stepper with some subtle keyboard grooving behind warm female vocals by Terri Wells – and other great tracks include "Funk Attack", "New Beginning", "One For the Road", "It's Been Cool", and "I'll Never Forget My Favorite Disco". (Cover has a crease on one corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Philadelphia International, 1977. Very Good-
Brilliant work from Philly arranger Dexter Wansel – an album that moves the focus back to soul a bit more than on his Life On Mars set, but which also keeps in plenty of jazzy touches! Dexter's groove here is similar to the best work he did with other Philly vocalists in the same time – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Back Stabbers
Philadelphia International, 1972. Very Good
A landmark album for the O'Jays – a set that moved them from the indie ranks to 70s megasoulstatus! Keep Smilin'
Philadelphia International, 1974. Very Good-
One of Bunny's earliest, and one of his best. Although some of the tracks have an uptempo pre-disco feel, there's none of the excesses of his later albums for Gold Mind. Instead, there's a solid Philly soul groove, and great production by Bunny, with arrangements by Norman Harris and Ronnie Baker. ... LP, Vinyl record album

A key moment for the Philly soul scene of the 70s – and the first album to feature the MFSB backing group as a solo act on their own! Summertime
Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good
Quite possibly our favorite album from MFSB – the legendary Philly instrumental group from the 70s! The record's completely sublime all the way through – and is perhaps the most perfect illustration of that subtle blend of funk, soul, and disco that makes the group so great – a ... What Color Is Love
Philadelphia International, 1977. Very Good+
Dee Dee's come a long way from "The Mashed Potato Time" here – emerging as a full-blown modern soul artist, with the same sort of sophisticated twist as other Philly girl singers, like Jean Carn or The Jones Girls. The title cut is a great remake of Terry Callier's "What Color ... LP, Vinyl record album

What can we say? Most of the biggest hits, and many of the very best tracks cut in the prime of Al Green's career – which is to say some of the very best Memphis soul ever recorded! 10 essential tracks in all, and it's just one of these Greatest Hits packages of pure, inarguable perection ... Perhaps Donny Hathaway's greatest album from the 70s, and certainly the one with the most amazing arrangements! Barry & Glodean
CBS, 1981. Very Good+
A later set from Barry – recorded at the beginning of the 80s with his wife Glodean! The album has Barry and Glodean singing together in a set of smooth modern soul duets – slightly different than his solo work, but with a subdued edge that's still very strongly in the Barry/Love ... A great little album by The Impressions – possibly their best of the 70s! Hot Wax, Early 70s. Very Good
An excellent batch of hard soul grooves from the great Laura Lee! This one was her first for the Hot Wax label – and it's got the raw quality of her earlier singles for labels like Chess, with a hard vocal style that's very much in the Aretha Franklin/Fontella Bass camp – plus some ...
