Guitar Boy Superstar 1970 to 1976
LP (Item 474568) Soundway (UK), Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
A heady brew of guitar-driven numbers from Sir Victor Uwaito – a key force in the Nigerian music scene for many years, and an instrumentalist with a really mindblowing sound! Some of these tracks have Victor playing a weird double-necked guitar, others a straighter version of the electric instrument – and just about all of them have some kind of odd approach to standard guitar lines – odd sounds, weird phrasings, and unusual timings that really stand out – even on the more heavily vocal tracks in the set. The material here also has an undercurrent of other early 70s elements – bits of funk and soul at key moments, which really keeps the overall sound of the record very much in the best tradition of the Soundway label – a strong introduction to African grooves for folks with an ear trained in funk! Titles include "Kirikisi", "Idogo", "Egbe Natete", "Talking Instruments", "Agho", "Iye Iye Oh", "Madaka", "Dododo", "West African Safari", "Do Lelezi", "Happy Day From Me To You", and "Edenederio". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
