Book (Item 595564) IDW Publishing, Late 60s — Condition: New Copy

One of the greatest pairings of talent in 60s newspaper comics – and a legendary strip that's won countless accolades over the years! Secret Agent X-9 was originally created by Dashiell Hammett and comic legend Alex Raymond back in the 30s – but during the 60s, the strip was re-christened as Secret Agent Corrigan, and revamped significantly by writer Archie Goodwin and artist Al Williamson! At the time, Goodwin had done famous work for Warren Publications in Eerie and Creepy – and would go onto huge fame at DC and Marvel – and Williamson was arguably one of the best draftsmen of his generation, with crucial 50s work at EC, and a wealth of other sci-fi and horror material as well. Together, the pair created something incredible – a very adult-level strip that was more hard-boiled crime than a simple spy story – really returning the character to its gritty roots, yet also moving forward with the sensibilities of their late 60s generation. This massive volume brings together strips from all of 1967, 1968, and most of 1969 – almost 300 pages, with oversize black and white reproductions in a heavy hardcover setting! (Please note that there is a remainder mark on the spine & a slight rip on the dustcover.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
