Warmly grooving 70s soul from The Staple Singers – recorded in a fuller Memphis mode that's miles from their gospel roots, but still plenty darn nice! The style here is very much in keeping with the hit Staples mode of the time – righteous, full, but still nice and earthy at the bottom – a beautiful blending of the group's one male and three female vocals – served up with some slight electric touches in the rhythms. Tracks are tight and catchy, but never poppy – and titles include "If You're Ready", an obvious follow up to "I'll Take You There" – plus "Tellin Lies", "Love Comes In All Colors", "Drown Yourself", "I Ain't Raisin No Sand", and a nice version of "Grandma's Hands". (Vinyl has a short click on the first track of each side.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A very, very nice album by Shirley that often gets overlooked next to her Woman To Woman album from the early 70s. This one's a sweet modern soul release, although it's still got Stax production by David Porter, and vocals by Shirley in her deep rich style. The groove is very nice, and the ... Stax, 1970. Very Good+
Jean Knight's classic – and a monumental album of funky female soul that was one of the best albums in the "second generation" Stax era! You probably know the title cut, as it was her biggest hit, and the inspiration for loads of "answer" songs (some of which came from ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stax, 1974. Near Mint-
One of the most fantastic albums ever about cheatin' and runnin' around behind the back of your loved one, and easily the best thing the Soul Children ever did. Totally solid all the way through, and clearly conceived as a concept album dealing with romantic "friction". Includes the hit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Amazing work from the great Jon Lucien – and probably his best-ever record! The album has Jon hitting a totally unified vision of spacey soul – bringing in elements of Brazilian music and touches of his Carribean roots, fusing them together with a sweet jazzy style and one of the most ... An album that reunites Natalie Cole with the smooth soul team of Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancey – the team who did such a great job with Natalie's Capitol debut, and who really continue the groove here too! The album's got a rock-solid approach through and through – a quality that has ... LP, Vinyl record album
