A nice litle set from Bob James – thanks to a good degree of warmth in the keyboards, which still include Fender Rhodes alongside acoustic piano and some more advanced 80s keys! While other artists of his generation were really schmaltzing things up by this point in time, Bob still keeps things pretty laidback and cool – mostly using smaller instrumentation on the tracks, and going for a lean mode that retains the best focus on his keyboard lead and solos. Some of the tunes are mellow, but still nice – and titles include "Shamboozie", "Spunky", "Macumba", "Roberta", "It's Only Me", and "Janus". Pablo, 1977. Near Mint-
A wicked bit of 70s funky fusion from Dizzy Gillespie – recorded with his old piano player from the 60s, Lalo Schifrin! Lalo arranged, conducted, and plays plenty of keyboards – giving the album a wicked groove that's a bit different than some of Dizzy's other 70s work – a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Along Comes Cal
Verve, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Great stuff – and very very groovy! Cal cut this record for Verve during the height of his swinging 60s Latin years – and he's working here with arranger Chico O'Farrill, who at the time, was perfectly suited for Cal's short, jaunty approach to a groove! The album's filled with nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy & Wes – The Dynamic Duo
Verve, 1966. Very Good Gatefold
Excellent meeting between 2 mighty talents who rarely recorded together! Oliver Nelson did the arrangements and leads a big band, but the real focus is on Jimmy and Wes' solos, which are given a lot of room to roam in long tracks like "James & Wes", "Night Train", and " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dot, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A great one by Jack Sheldon – very different than some of his earlier jazz work, done in a hip LA easy style that has slight touches of later work on labels like CTI. Don Sebesky scored the arrangements for the set, giving the music a dark easy edge that's a perfect backdrop for Sheldon's ... LP, Vinyl record album
