Satchmo – Ambassador Of Jazz – 1923 to 1967 (4CD set)
CD (Item 592271) Verve, 1920s/1930s/1940s/1950s/1960s — Condition: New Copy
A beautiful box set dedicated to the music of Louis Armstrong – one that traces the full range of his career alongside a heavy hardcover book – with a wealth of material that includes some unreleased recordings as well! The package comes with a cool suitcase-style design – which opens up to a lavish 164 page book that traces Armstrong's life, music, and global travels – with full details on his rich story, and loads of color images as well – so much so, the book is almost worth the price of the box alone! But alongside that volume, you also get 4CDs with 81 tracks – divided up into themes that include "Stomp Off Let's Go – 1923 to 1938", "C'Est Si Bon – 1938 to 1951", "Satchmo – 1955 to 1957", and "What A Wonderful World – 1957 to 1967". As you'd guess from the latter two CDs, the package places strong emphasis on these later years of Armstrong's career – which are finally getting the sort of appreciation they deserve!
