CD (Item 465089) Mainstream/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s — Condition: New Copy

Jazz funk never died out 'round these parts, but it makes a strong return here regardless – thanks to a killer collection of grooves from the early 70s catalog of Mainstream Records! The Mainstream label was a real hotbed of jazz funk work at the time – a place where players who'd come upon Prestige and other labels in the 60s found a new space to do their thing in the 70s – alongside some other lesser-known artists who first got exposure thanks to Mainstream and their great way of handling a groove. The collection here features a number of cuts from un-reissued albums – titles making their CD debut here alongside a few more famous cuts from the label. Set features 14 tracks in all – including "In The Back In The Corner In The Dark" by Harold Land, "I Got So Much Trouble" by Charles Kynard, "I Want You Back" by Bob Shad, "What's Going On" by Charles McPherson, "Abscretions" by Buddy Terry, "Satan's Mysterious Feeling" by Roy Haynes, "Down Yonder" by David Young, "Booger Bear" by Charles Williams, "They All Say You're The Biggest Fool" by Stan Hope, "The Spirit" by Curtis Fuller, "The Message" by Blue Mitchell, and "Booga Bop" by Dave Hubbard.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
