A pretty beautiful little record from Ian Matthews – a bit folksy, but with more punch than you might expect – kind of that great blend of modes you might get at Island Records at the time! Matthews has this sweet little trill in his vocals – almost Tim Buckley-esque at points, as are the jazz phrasings on the instrumentation on some of our favorite songs – although these are nicely offset by a rootsier feel on others. There's definitely the right touch of blueness to make the record resonate right with all these elements – and titles include "Colorado Springs Eternal", "Please Be My Friend", "Dream Song", "Fly Pigeon Fly", "Sweet Bread", and "Once Upon A Lifetime". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
