Narada Michael Walden at the top of his game – unleashing a sweet set of 80s grooves that are possibly more solid than his work in the 70s! Although Walden's got somewhat righteous roots, it's clear that his best strength is actually his more mainstream work – the kind of tight, catchy grooves served up on this set – awash in beats and keyboards, but also with some jazzier touches as well! Michael Gibbs serves up some great fuller arrangements on a few tracks – helping to warm things up slightly – and titles include "You're #1", "Summer Lady", "I'm Ready", "Safe In My Arms", "Confidence", and "Holiday". (Includes the original lyic sleeve.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

I Cry, I Smile
Atlantic, 1977. Very Good+
One of Narada Michael Walden's best albums from the late 70s – a sweet blend of jazz funk and soul, done with a slightly spiritual sound, and lots of nice touches on keyboards! Walden's a bit subtler than some of his contemporaries, but that makes for a album that opens itself up more and ... LP, Vinyl record album
On My Way
Atlantic, 1982. Very Good+
A stone killer from Gwen McCrae – a set that's light years past the deep soul of Gwen's Miami roots – and which is given a tight, modern spin by the great Webster Lewis! Lewis produced, and plays plenty of keyboards here – and his fusion-inspired groove really helps unlock a ... LP, Vinyl record album
You're A Part Of Me
Atlantic, 1988. Very Good
By this point in her career, Jean Carn's added an "e" to her name, has messed up her hair, and picked up a pronounced 80s smooth soul sound. However, she's still recording in Philly, and on the best cuts she makes it past some rather heavy keyboard arrangements that almost get in the way. ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hot City
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good-
An excellent album of Barry White-styled instrumentals – put together by Barry's right hand man Gene Page, and produced by Barry himself! The record's one of the best that Page ever cut – apart from his seminal blacksploitation soundtracks – and it's very much in the mode of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Let Me In Your Life
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good+
Aretha Franklin and electric piano – a really great combination that makes for a whole new level of soulfulness in the 70s! The album's one of Franklin's greatest of the decade – a deepening of the sound she first brought to Atlantic in the 60s, and a maturation of that groove – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Warmer Communications
Atlantic, 1978. Very Good
In case you don't get the joke, the title's a play on the fact that Atlantic Records had just been acquired by Warner Communications – now fully a major label at the end of the 70s! That fact doesn't stop the album from being a good one, though – and AWB work here with Arif Mardin on a ... LP, Vinyl record album
