A stone cooker from organist Don Patterson – and one of his best fuller group recordings for Prestige from the 60s! Patterson is best known for his work on the label with his trio that included guitarist Pat Martino and drummer Billy James – and while that unit is intact here, they're also augmented by Howard McGhee on trumpet and Charles McPherson on alto – for a rich, full sound that adds a bit of hardbop into Patterson's normally soul jazz focus. The tracks are all nice and long, and filled with a deeper set of colors and tunes than usual for Don. Titles include "Pisces Soul", "Island Fantasy", and "Donna Lee". (Blue label pressing. Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Satisfaction!
Prestige, 1965. Very Good-
Early trio session featuring Patterson next to guitarist Jerry Byrd and his usual drummer Billy James. Cuts are long, with Patterson's breezy flowing organ lines, and playing that sounds a lot like Larry Young did at this point. Cuts include "Satisfaction", "Walkin", and " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Prestige, 1954. Good+
Some of the best work ever from pianist Billy Taylor – and some of the earliest too! Taylor's 50s trio with Earl May and Percy Brice is augmented here by conga work by the great Candido – and this addition brings a lot of fire to the group, giving Taylor's normally safe style a harder ... Black Talk!
Prestige, 1970. Very Good-
A pivotal album in the development of the use of the Hammond organ in jazz – and Charles Earland's first exposure to a large audience! Durign the 60s, Charles was bumping around the Philly scene quite a bit – and recorded some small group indie sides that first gave a glimpse of his ... LP, Vinyl record album

ECM, 1982. Near Mint-
A really wonderful little record from Pat Metheny – quite possibly our favorite by the man, thanks to some really inventive sounds that still resonate strongly in the groove scene today! Pat's skirting nicely here between the sound-based quality of earlier records, and some of the more fluid ... LP, Vinyl record album

Techniques Douces
Owl (France), 1976. Very Good+
Free-flowing and angular reed work from Francois Jeanneau – a fair bit more soulful than you might guess from the "techniques" in the title! The setting is relaxed and almost informal, but moves along with that subtle sense of groove that often marked the best Owl Records sessions ... LP, Vinyl record album
