A stone cooker from organist Don Patterson – and one of his best fuller group recordings for Prestige from the 60s! Patterson is best known for his work on the label with his trio that included guitarist Pat Martino and drummer Billy James – and while that unit is intact here, they're also augmented by Howard McGhee on trumpet and Charles McPherson on alto – for a rich, full sound that adds a bit of hardbop into Patterson's normally soul jazz focus. The tracks are all nice and long, and filled with a deeper set of colors and tunes than usual for Don. Titles include "Pisces Soul", "Island Fantasy", and "Donna Lee". (Blue label pressing. Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Satisfaction!
Prestige, 1965. Very Good-
Early trio session featuring Patterson next to guitarist Jerry Byrd and his usual drummer Billy James. Cuts are long, with Patterson's breezy flowing organ lines, and playing that sounds a lot like Larry Young did at this point. Cuts include "Satisfaction", "Walkin", and " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Prestige, 1958. Good
Volume 2 of Lockjaw's classic early Cookbook sessions – cut for Prestige in a key transitional moment, when Lock was trying to break past the R&B roots of earlier years, and emerge as a more sophisticated jazz soloist, capable of carrying an idea way past the short format of singles and ... Black Talk!
Prestige, 1970. Very Good-
A pivotal album in the development of the use of the Hammond organ in jazz – and Charles Earland's first exposure to a large audience! Durign the 60s, Charles was bumping around the Philly scene quite a bit – and recorded some small group indie sides that first gave a glimpse of his ... LP, Vinyl record album

Got My Own
Prestige, 1973. Near Mint-
A more laidback set than usual from Ammons' early 70s stretch on Prestige – but a record that nicely gets back to that big-toned tenor sound he used often on ballads from earlier years! The combo mixes both electric piano and organ – the former from Hank Jones, the latter from Ernie ... LP, Vinyl record album

Soul Circle
Prestige, 1968. Very Good
An excellent album of long jazzy grooves by Brother Jack McDuff – and one that has him really breaking past the tighter style of early years, into the long complicated modal style that graced his best later work. The material was most likely recorded earlier than the record's 1968 release ... LP, Vinyl record album

Techniques Douces
Owl (France), 1976. Very Good+
Free-flowing and angular reed work from Francois Jeanneau – a fair bit more soulful than you might guess from the "techniques" in the title! The setting is relaxed and almost informal, but moves along with that subtle sense of groove that often marked the best Owl Records sessions ... LP, Vinyl record album
