Original Album Classics (Swinger From Rio/In Person At El Matador/Great Arrival/Beat Of Brazil/Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things) (5CD set)
CD (Item 591031) Atlantic/WEA (UK), 1965/1966/1967/1968 — Condition: New Copy
A whole round of 60s greatness from Sergio Mendes – nearly all of his non-Brasil 66 albums in one great package – with each CD packaged in its own little album-style sleeve! The set features the bossa jazz classic The Swinger From Rio – recorded with a hard instrumental edge that's quite different than most Sergio from later years. Next is In Person At El Matador – a live performance that's partly bossa jazz, but which also has Wanda Sa joining on vocals – the start of the Mendes love of a female singer in the lead! The Great Arrival is all instrumental, with Sergio Mendes' Brazilian piano upfront – laid out over larger arrangements with a good jazz component – by Clare Fischer, Bob Florence, and Richard Hazard. Beat Of Brazil is early bossa jazz from Sergio Mendes – recorded with his famous Bossa Rio combo, in the years before he moved to America! Sergio Mendes Favorite Things is a sweet little pairing of the keyboards of Sergio and the early arranging styles of Dave Grusin – and a set that's quite different than some of Sergio's vocal albums with Brasil 66! The style here is all instrumental – and Mendes plays both piano and electric piano, plus a bit of harpsichord too – working with a hip LA group that features Grusin on organ, Tom Scott on flute and soprano sax, and John Pisano on guitar – plus a bit of Brazilian percussion from Joao Donato and Moacir Santos! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
