Enchantment – The Spell Of Nino Rota
CD (Item 592218) Rearward (Italy), 2011 — Condition: New Copy
A beautiful take on the music of Nino Rota – one that mixes lead trumpet lines from Fabrizio Bosso with some great larger orchestrations – all in a mode that both recalls the cinematic glory of the compositions, yet also gives it a different setting too! Bosso's trumpet is always wonderful – sharp-edged in small combo settings, and richly expressive in larger projects like this – really a perfect fit for Rota's wonderful compositions, capable of unlocking elements in the music we never heard in the films – thanks to some key jazz inflections from time to time. Yet given the larger backings – handled by Stefano Fonzi – the album's quite far from a straight jazz outing, even though core rhythms are by a trio with Lorenzo Tucci. Titles include "Amarcord", "Romeo E Giulietta", "Otto E Mezzo", "La Strada", "Il Padrino", and "La Dolce Vita" – plus one original written for the set, "Enchantment". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
