A tasty set from Mandrill – one of their first records away from the Polydor label, but every bit as great as later efforts for that company, especially Mandrilland. The overall sound is a bit smoother than some of their full-out funky albums – but in a way that really helps blend together the band's unique mix of soul, Latin, and Afro-percussion grooves. Titles include "Stop & Go", "Yucca Jump", "Wind On Horseback", "Tee Vee", and "Peck Ya Neck". (Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Polydor, 1973. Near Mint-
One of the best records ever by Mandrill – and a perfect balance between the looser jazzy spirituality of earlier albums, and the tighter (sometimes too tight) style of later ones. The band is incredibly tight on the funk tip – with lots of hard drums and guitars, and other sweet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Feel The Phuff
Chi Sound/United Artists, 1978. Near Mint-
Classic late 70's Chi soul group, with some very early work by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, and vocal and tenor work by Reggie Griffin. The tracks are mostly uptempo ensemble funk, with a smooth production sound that doesn't always bring out the group's best talents. Titles include "Ou ... LP, Vinyl record album

Unity
United Artists, 1980. Very Good+
Obscure modern soul album on United Artists, with a strong sound that's heading towards an 80s groove, but which also has elements of Luther's work during the late 70s. The group features two male and one female singer – and the overally vocal approach is solos on the verses, and harmony on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1977. Very Good+
One of Kelly's last records of the 70s – a bit smoother than some of his earlier work, but still quite strong overall, with some excellent vocals on most tracks. Gene Page handled the arrangements and production – and he gives Kelly some nice backgrounds to work with, ones that have a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mr Wright
Manhattan, 1985. Very Good
By the mid 80s, Bernard Wright had dropped some of his jazz funk sound, and moved towards more of a smoother R&B sound – although the mix proved out to work surprisingly well, and has made this album a bit of a classic in the 80s groove mode. Includes the cut "Who Do You Love", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Live & Lively
Atlantic, 1968. Very Good
A tasty live set, with a smoking raw groove that you don't always get on Joe's studio albums! The crowd really goes wild for Joe – and with only some small group backing behind him, he's got nothing left to do but go over the top with his vocals! As proof of that, the record includes the ...
