Mindblowing work by a really under-documented group – a mid 60s recording that definitely lives up to the free form in the name of the combo! The sound here is even bolder and more revolutionary than that of the contemporaneous "new thing" generation, or some of the European avant players of the period – really long, loose, and open passages that clearly begin without any sense of structure at all – often with the complete feeling of surprise that you'd get from some of the best 70s sessions from FMP. The group features great piano (and some piano harp) from Burton Greene – really at his boldest here – plus flutes from Jon Winter, alto sax from Gary William Friedman, bass from Alan Silva, and percussion from Clarence Walker.
