A great overview of the far reaching strains of jazzy and funky music made in South Africa from the early 60s to the late 70s – the conclusion of the incredible Next Stop Soweto series on Strut – capping off the series with the best of the three! In a period of both physical and cultural segregation, truly exceptional music was made – much of it in a jazzy mode – relatively early soul jazz sounds and jazzy funk that's uniquely South African. African drums, percussion fused with region free jazziness and boundless spirit. Amazing stuff!
