De L'Origine Du Monde
CD (Item 595938) Nato (France), 2010 — Condition: New Copy
A beautiful book packaged with a CD – or is it vice versa – and another rich project from the mind of Tony Hymas! The album pays tribute to Gustave Courbet's striking painting The Origin Of The World from the 19th century – with a mix of songs that explore various themes in the artwork through a complex blend of jazz and compositional modes – truly the great sort of cultural exploratory project we love from Nato Records! The overall style is very hard to pin down, but that's really the charm of it, too – as Hymas almost creates a mini-movie in music – complete with French lyrics in some passages, and wonderfully evocative music in others – and packaged with a thick, full-color book that offers up graphic novel variations and explorations on Courbet's painting – plus some writing on the work, and by Courbet himself. Titles include "Images", "La Geante", "Scene", "Allure", and "Nel Sorriso". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
