An undisputed classic – and a key turning point in the career of Roland Kirk! The set has Roland leading a large group of musicians through a haunting batch of complicated tracks that clearly illustrate his much-heralded concept of Black Classical Music – a mixture of jazz, older rhythms, and modern ideas influenced by a history of musical expression. The approach is vaguely similar to work by the AACM, but more straightforward in parts, and always touched with Roland's strong sense of imagination and humor.
