Marvin Gaye — Marvin Gaye Live! ... CD 3.99

A wonderful 70s live album from Marvin Gaye – a set that was as expansive, ambitious, and sophisticated as his studio work from the time! The album's put together almost like a 3-sided portrait of Marvin – in that it begins with a long section of current work, moves into a "fossil medley" of older hits, then returns to "now" to showcase two of his biggest his of the time. The orchestrations are sublime – wonderfully carried off in a live setting amidst some very frantic screams from the females in the audience – and Marvin's vocals are incredible too – floating out magically amidst the crowd, and easily some of his best on record from the decade. Titles include the album's hit reading of "Distant Lover" – plus "Let's Get It On", "What's Going On", "Trouble Man", "Inner City Blues", "Distant Lover", "Keep Getting It On", and "Jan". Packaged in a cool gatefold, with a die cut image of Marvin's big silver boots! (Original pressing in the die-cut gatefold cover. Cover has some wear, with a bit of splitting on the spine.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Goin' Up In Smoke
Tamla, 1976. Sealed
A soaring set from the great Eddie Kendricks – and a record that brings his Detroit roots into play with the best Philly grooves of the time – thanks to production from the mighty Norman Harris! Tamla, Early 60s. Very Good-
A great rare, early album by The Miracles – one you almost never see on wax! The album features the group back when they still had a female member, who gives the band a beautiful high harmony sound in tandem with Smokey Robinson's falsetto vocals. A classic early Detroit soul record from ... LP, Vinyl record album

One Eye Open
Dynamo, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An excellent bit of party funk – and a real precursor to musical party records of the 70s! Harmon Bethea is the "Mask Man", and he's working here with his Agents – a very popular live act at the time, with a mixture of raunchy grooves and blue humor, ala Doug Clark & The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kool Jazz
De-Lite, Early 70s. Very Good
A great album – even if most of the cuts are on other records! The set's designed to focus on the jazzier side of Kool & The Gang – and it sifts through the first few albums to come up with some of the more sophisticated (yet still totally funky!) numbers by the band, giving a good ... Soul Sister
Brunswick, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Lost funky work from one of the soulful sisters of Aretha Franklin! Erma's got a hard-hitting style that's right up there with Aretha's best for Atlantic – and on this album, she's working in Chicago with Johnny Pate, Sonny Sanders, and Willie Henderson – for a harder-hitting sound ... Gap Band IV
Total Experience, 1982. Very Good+
Perhaps the ultimate album for The Gap Band – and sure, it was a hit, but the record still sounds great today, and the constant sampling of some of the record has kept it fresh in the crates for years at years. The band have lost the heavier funk sound of earlier years, and working in a ... LP, Vinyl record album

I Want To Be With You
Mercury, 1967. Very Good
Wonderful work from Dionne Warwick's lesser-known sister – a hell of a great singer, and one who packs even more punch than her famous sibling! The gem of a set has all the poise and class of Dionne, but comes across with a lot more soul as well – a great mix that's very much in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keep The Dream Alive – Dr Martin Luther King
RCA, 1973. Sealed 2LP Gatefold
Excellent raw live set from the early 70s – featuring a host of artists from the RCA stable, all paying tribute to the late Dr. Martin Luther King. The best stuff on here is by Jimmy Castor, and the album includes a totally funky remake of "Hey Leroy" that's got little bits of ... LP, Vinyl record album
