Super Dude -- The Mercury Years Volume 1. . . Plus

Add to Cart$9.99 ... CD
CD (Item 376251) Mercury/Shout (UK), 1973 -- Condition: New Copy

A fantastic early 70s set from Don Covay -- probably best known for his Atlantic stuff, but really nailing a great southern soul sound on this set for Mercury! A wealth of 70s soul influences filter into the sound, with somewhat bigger arrangements than much of Don's better known late 60s material, but the performance of the man himself brings all the fire and grit you would hope for! The overall sound is wonderfully soulful, with some nice strains of funk, and less bluesy than some of his work earlier in the decade! The CD includes the great AM radio hit "I Was Checkin' Out She Was Checkin' In", the funky "Overtime Man" and "The Pinch Hitters", plus "Memphis", "Bad Mouthing", "Leave Him Pts 1 & 2" and more! Groovy 70s soul with a quirky, leftfield twist! Bonus tracks include 5 numbers from Don's rare 1971 LP Different Strokes -- a mixture of tight Memphis Soul, with some rolicking bluesy bits and some funky influences, too!  © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
