CD (Item 574203) Trio/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1979 — Condition: New Copy

A nice late 70s set from Helen Merrill, with wonderfully spare accompaniment that really puts her vocals center stage – almost a return to the best mode of the landmark 50s recordings that first got her noticed! The group features some standout work from jazz musicians who include Dick Katz on piano, Joe Puma on guitar, and Pepper Adams on baritone sax – and Helen's still sounding great at this later point in her career, with her relaxed, coolly delivered vocals floating nicely above the group's crisp backing. Titles include "It Ain't Necessarily So", "Embraceable You", "I Can't Be Bothered Now", 'Summertime", "I Got Rhythm", "I Loves You Porgy", "My One And Only", and "Someone To Watch Over Me". (HQ – Hi Quality CD pressing.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
