CD (Item 389664) Mr Bongo (UK), 1986/2005 — Condition: New Copy
Older South African tunes, given a remixed twist! The Mothers were a group of female health workers in a Cape Town collective, and in 1986 they recorded a beautiful album of vocal choral work – done in a style that was similar to some of the better known work coming out of South Africa at the time, but a bit earthier overall. For this set, Mr Bongo has called on the talents of a host of modern producers to augment the sounds of the original album – not really taking the material into dancefloor territory, but instead pulling out some of the rhythms and atmospherics of the original, in a way that greatly enhances the vocal performance. Additional work is by Kid Loco, Soulsavers, Manasseh, Zero 7, Kalahari Surfers, Nitin Sawhney, Faze Action, and others – and titles include "Milk", "Learning", "Breathe Together", "Speak For Me", "You", "Water For Life", "Faith", "The Written Word", and "Support". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
