Carmen McRae — Just A Little Lovin ... CD

Bold, boozy work from Carmen McRae – a wonderfully mature album from that great time when her style was equal parts jazz and soul – put together here by arranger/producer Arif Mardin, a perfect choice for the record! There's a care to the overall presentation not heard in some of McRae's albums from a few years before – not just jazz vocals with a backing group, but a really rich presentation of some hip, modern, all-adult material that somehow sounds even better in Carmen's hands than anyone else. Titles include the sublime title tune "Just A Little Lovin" – plus"Goodbye Joe", "I Love The Life I Live", "Carry That Weight", "Something", "I Want You", "More Today Than Yesterday", and "Didn't We". (Cover has a cutout notch.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mose In Your Ear
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good
It's the early 70s, and Mose is still going strong – grooving with a unique blend of New Orleans soul and Northern jazz influences, his own particular brand of music, timeless from the day it was born! The setting here is a live one, and Mose is playing with a trio that includes Clyde ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chris In Person
Atlantic, 1959. Very Good-
A nice little live set from Chris – recorded at the Village Vanguard with a group that includes Kenny Burrell on guitar, Eddie De Haas on bass, Bill Rubenstein on piano, and Lex Humphries on drums. The setting of the album is similar to some of Chris' work at Bethlehem – very small ... LP, Vinyl record album

Witchcraft
Atlantic, 1959. Very Good
A lovely side by Chris Connor for Atlantic, recorded not too long after her stint at Bethlehem – where she'd perfected an icy cool style of singing that's still to be matched to this day! The album features larger arrangements by Richard Wess – but still has a light jazzy feel, ... LP, Vinyl record album

It's All In The Game
MGM, Late 50s. Very Good+
A wonderful bit of pop vocal work from Tommy Edwards – precursor to some of the smoother male soul singers of the 60s, and done in a round and warm style that we really love! The album's based around Tommy's super huge hit reading of "It's All In The Game" – and it includes ... LP, Vinyl record album

The title says it all – as Billy sings themes from 12 big movies of the late 50s and early 60s – familiar tunes done here in a nice soulful setting, with arrangements by Billy Byers, and Bobby Tucker at the head of the orchestra. Titles include "More", "The High & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laughing
BeeGee, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Ok, we'll admit that most of this album is kind of weak – and Amanda's a sort of Nina Simone wanna-be – but there are a few nice songs on here with a pretty good groove! Both "Sad Songs" and "That's It" have some great arrangements that mix complicated ... LP, Vinyl record album
