Born Under The Heat (plus bonus tracks)
CD (Item 375885) Dragon (Sweden), 1984 — Condition: New Copy
One of the most complicated albums from bassist Johnny Dyani, and one of the most compelling too – an octet session from the mid 80s, and one that's filled with wonderfully imaginative moments! The work's quite different than some of Dyani's more improvised sessions, but it's got an organic quality that matches them nicely – slight Africanist themes, and a way of bringing together the musicians that hearkens back to some of Chris McGregor's earlier experiments in the 70s, and even to some of Dyani's roots in The Blue Notes. The ensemble features Dyani on both piano and bass, plus Charles Davis on alto, Krister Andersson and Peter Shimi Radise on tenors, Mosa Gwangwa on trombone, and Ulf Adaker on trumpet – and titles include "Winnie Mandela", "Wish You Sunshine", "Namibia", "Song For The Workers", and "The Boys From Somafco". CD also features 2 bonus tracks from a 1996 session – much more intimate work from a quartet that includes Ed Epstein on tenor and Pierre Dorge on guitar – on titles that include "Let My People Have Some Freedom" and "Musicians Musician". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
