Worse The Better – Live at Cafe OTO, January 2010 (180 gram vinyl)
LP (Item 607790) OTOroku (UK), 2010 — Condition: New Copy
Muscular angularity from the trio of reeds titan Peter Brotzmann, John Edwards on double bass and Steve Noble on drums – not as all out ferocious as some of the more frenzied Brotzmann recordings, though still plenty invigorating! The title would be sly whatever the record sounded like, but it's actually amusingly dichotomous, as this is really, really strong stuff. Brotzmann's tone is clear and fluid, and the pacing grows more and more busily as the record progresses, never flying out off the rails. Edwards and Noble are inventive and adaptable, so it's not terribly surprising that the trio works so brilliantly together despite this being billed as their first time working as unit, but it's exciting all the same! The set was recorded live at London's Café OTO in January '10. Side A: 22:40, Side B: 16:10.
