CD (Item 600579) Winter & Winter (Germany), Late 90s — Condition: New Copy

Uri Caine and Gustav Mahler – not a combination you might expect, but one that's been explored often by Caine, and in some really creative ways! This well-packaged set brings together a host of Mahler-inspired recordings by Uri from years back – mostly done with small groups that hang somewhere in a space between jazz and avant classical – often with fresh instrumentation that really marks Caine's contributions to the aesthetic! All tunes are originals by Uri, but all based on Mahler compositions – and the work is performed by a few different groups, on a few different dates – with a lineup that includes Caine on piano, Don Byron on clarinet, Arto Lindsay on voice, DJ Olive on electronics and turntables, Ralph Alessi on trumpet, Larry Gold on cello, and Joey Baron on drums. Titles include "Adagietto", "When Your Mother Comes In The Door", "Dark Flame", "I Went Out This Morning Over The Countryside", "Rhinelegend", and "I Often Think They Have Merely Gone Out".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
